George Chavel is President and CEO of Sodexo, Inc., a leading integrated food and facilities management services company producing $7.7 billion in annual revenues in the US, Canada and Mexico. As the chief executive, Mr. Chavel leads 120,000 employees in the company's six business lines to serve more than 6,000 clients and ten million customers daily in corporations, health care, long term care and retirement centers, schools, higher education campuses, government and remote sites. These account for nearly 44 percent of the global revenue for parent company, Sodexo. Mr. Chavel also serves as a Chief Operating Officer for the parent company in a global role, and is a member of the worldwide Operating Committee.
Mr. Chavel previously served as Chief Operating Officer and Health Care Market President for Sodexo, Inc., since 2003. Under his leadership, Sodexo's health care business grew by nearly 30 percent to more than $2 billion in annual revenues. Mr. Chavel earlier served as Vice President for the Hospitals/Acute Care division from 1998 to 2003.
Mr. Chavel has a record of building dedicated and successful teams and is a strong advocate of training and career opportunities for employees. Under his leadership, the Health Care division instituted training and recognition programs for Sodexo employees and client employees who exemplify the Sodexo values of compassion, accountability, respect, enthusiasm and service.
Prior to joining Sodexo, Mr. Chavel spent seven years in the restaurant franchising industry. Before then, he began his professional career with Arthur Andersen in Detroit, Michigan.
Mr. Chavel is a former board member of the National Committee for Quality Health Care and of the National Center for Healthcare Leadership. He chairs Sodexo's Diversity Leadership Council and is a member of the Sodexo Foundation Board.
Mr. Chavel holds a BA in Economics and Management from Albion College, in Albion, Michigan.
